open season

living in a coastal new england town, means from labor day to memorial day our town can seem like an empty ghost town. but memorial day through labor day means fried dough, mosquitoes, amusement rides, arcades, traffic, parking meters, people-lots of them-mostly speaking french-quite a few wearing speedos, a full beach, music, lights, bike cops, fireworks on thursdays, motorcycles, & barely dressed teenagers. summertime seekers. we get to view it up close. it is quite surreal really. from empty to full overnight.  and so it begins...

we had a night of firsts.
with mom-mom and pop-pop along, kellen rode the giant slide for the first time ever. he even got to choose his lane...  his choice?   the purple one of course!  (his favorite color) last year he was too small and quite disappointed by that.  happiness is being big enough!  then we rode the ferris wheel for the first time too. kellen, casey, jason, and i went round and round and round once more. the view of the beach and ocean from the top is quite impressive!
now bring on the speedos.
ya gotta love them, they are a riot!
BEEP!  BEEP!

i love carnival rides,
although the ferris wheel

Great pictures!
I too live in a small rural town and this weekend all of the tourists arrive! It really is quite strange... nice to have all the energy of people enjoying Summer but odd when the things I love most about living here quiet lakes, and rivers are completely crowded. And the supermarket, forget it!

Looks fabulous! I'm looking forward to trying out Playland here in Rye one of these days before all the school get out and it's WAY crowded with summer beach-goers.
