she looked so sweet in one of my aprons all wrapped around her twice.
flour on her face, and hands, and arms, and floor, because the best messes make the most delicious pies. at least that's our theory and we are sticking to it! ;) i consider myself more of a cook than a baker. i generally short cut where i can. but hand picked apples some how deserved a little more effort from me. so i pulled out my mom's crust recipe and gave it a whirl. it looked rough at first, a tad too thick in places perhaps, but when it baked, ohhhhhhh it was golden. perfectly golden and flaky like a pie of my dreams. the extra effort was well worth it. and besides we wouldn't have been able to make a big mess if i had bought store crust. what fun would that be??? after dinner we ate it warm from the oven with a dip of vanilla ice cream.... mmmmmmm.
not much a dent was made in our apple bounty though.
this pie used 6 macs and 2 granny smiths
also subtract the various apples i keep finding around the house with "mysterious" bite marks out of them..... still leaves me with a boat load of apples! german pancakes for breakfast??? oh my belly.... ;)

Hi - I love the styling of your photos besides the fact that you have a beautiful family. Can you tell me how you get the color to be so dreamy?
Two words for you in terms of what to do with all those apples: APPLE BUTTER. It uses up a lot of them. I just made some this week, and now I'm trying to find more stuff to put it on. It's so ridiculously good.
Homemade crust!?? Bravo you two, the homemade crust still has me scared - I've only attempted it a couple of times.
Beautiful results ladies!
"pie" has been my 10 year old daughter's mantra for weeks now. she finally got one (pumkin) last week as part of our annual equinox celebration. you can read about it here: http://lunchlove.wordpress.com/
I think an apple pie is in my {near} future, though!
I made a german pancake tonight after reading this post! It was delicious!!! Thanks for the idea!
