we believe!

sunday we took a drive to Mackworth Island.
home of a 1.25 mile hiking trail and Baxter School for the Deaf.
The trail is easy an easy loop full of scenic views,  but the draw here to this trial is it is where fairies live, woodland fairies.  how do we know this?   their homes are there for you to find.  and if you like, you too can build your own for a new fairy to live in.  we built 2.  complete with pine cone tables, leaf placemats, and tiny seashell bowls.  this was our first trip to this magical place.  we had told kellen and casey we were going to see the fairy houses,  but i don't think they understood until we came to the spot.  their faces said it all.  magic is real,  you just have to believe.

i believe!

“Do you believe in fairies? Say quick that you believe. If you believe, clap your hands!”

- James Matthew Barrie

the sign at the village reads,
"The village provides fairies with cottages during their visits to the island. We invite you to visit the village and admire the creativity of the builders. If you are so inclined, you may use your own imagination to expand the village or provide needed maintenance to the existing cottages.
Thank you for treating the island with care and respect.
This helps to keep the fairies coming back!"

 go back we surely will!

Hey Kristin, Fairy houses are so healing. A few years ago our neighbor's son Adam passed away unexpectedly. I watched his baby sitter's daughter while she attended one of the memorials. Naia spent the whole time constructing an amazing fairy house in our field. It was such a cathartic activity. The image of the house itself will be burned in my brain forever. Blessings ~ Alis

Oh we loved this place!!! Everything about it! I liked all the history behind it too. Did you find the dog cemetery? I was amazed at all the little fairy houses. Really the whole island was magical.
