this is my fave shot of my time in PA. we gathered to say goodbye, to let go, to release someone we loved. my grandmother loved butterflies so my cousins ordered a box of butterflies to be released at the cemetery. it was a small white box filled with beautiful monarchs and painted ladies. this one painted lady landed on my aunt's hand and would not let go. the youngest member of the family was right there watching in wonder. it shifted the mood to lightness and beauty. the little ones giggled and chased after the fluttering beauties, and we adults watched them and smiled. a gathering of young and old, generations all together, celebrating a life lived and letting go.
it was a wonderful time of reconnecting and meeting new spouses and babies born that we had not met until now. a family growing and expanding from a grandmother now passed. the circle of life continuing on.
