new days

yes, the first day home with no little ones (and minus one big one) at all, the first time in years for me, i cried. i did. like a baby. i am stressed out. these big changes are not easy to adjust to overnight. i am a girl who likes to count on routines. perhaps too much so. now, quite honestly, i feel a bit lost. so maybe a little wish list of things to spread my own wings a bit would be good to see in print. some self motivation on for my low days.
so here goes.
i'd like to...
stretch my legs and take morning walks
get back to drinking tea and honey
sew a queen size quilt. maybe a king. (we do need a new bed one day soon)
write some letters and mail them.
make some brothy soups.
clean out our basement. for real. PURGE.
simplify simplify simplify
buy some new wool socks for fall and winter. (my seasonal splurge each year)
catch up writing in the kids's journals! (so behind on this. so very behind.)
find a book of mary oliver's poetry and devour every.beautiful.word.
knit a hat. a real hat this year, even if it hurts.
sew some new prayer flags for my soon to be bare trees. winter trees are prettier with prayer flags.
figure out a better system to organize my massive amounts of photos..
make homemade apple cider doughnuts.
go to a movie.

ok that's a good start.

Transition can be hard for Moms not just the kids! That list will surely help, hey I think I need to make a list.

Be patient with yourself. You will adjust. I just sent my youngest off to college last year and was very frightened by the fact that I was to become an empty nester. I can say now that it's not so bad. I now enjoy my "me time".
“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children. One is roots. The other is wings.”
Not sure who said that but I believe it to be true!
So go and enjoy that cider donut. You deserve it! -soonie2

I think a list is a good idea. And just giving yourself some time to lie around and be sad if you need to. Hugs!!!

I've never had an apple cider doughnut. It sounds incredible. Good luck coping with the change, my daughter is onlh 11 weeks old and I already dread having to put her into childcare a couple of days a week next May. I just want to keep her tiny and with me forever.

Watching them grow up is just so hard. Like you, I am all about routines. It's difficult to change things up and get used to something different. I love your list though. You have some great things ahead of you to accomplish. Love your blog, and love your images. You inspire me!

I have many of the same things on my do-it list! It's good to know someone else is working on these, too - helps keep me going. Good luck!
