a thread

i have been truly questioning my "style", or more so my lack there of. i can click on so many streams and just know who took the shot. the processing, the colors or mono tones just speaks of them. most days i feel all over the board, oooh boost, ooooh cross process, oooooh b&w AHHH! what is my style, and does it matter? i truly admire those who just know it. i wish i knew what it was for me. am i afraid to commit? afraid to box in? does anyone else out there struggle with this? so today i actually tried to have a common thread and feel to my shots. a flow. it was hard, like i said i get so scatter brained and like so many things i get visually overloaded. i am sure this "focus" shall pass and tomorrow i will upload a buffet of who knows what. lol

i left a comment on your flickr but i wanted to comment here too. i find myself struggling with this notion of style too. but it's funny to hear you say it because your photos are very distinct to me, and i think life comes through each photo based on mood and energy.

when i find myself floundering around in these type of thoughts i try to remember that each photo you take will create its own style. sometimes we are just the median for the art to come through. it exists all on its own, we just bring it life.

so, whatever it is... keep doing what you're doing!

I'm so surprised to see this! I play a little game when I'm looking at the Flickr contact photos -- I see which ones I can pick out without looking first -- and I always get yours! Whatever it is that you do is still YOU I guess, since it shines right through!!

:) thanks ladies. i like the notion that each photo will create its own style and mood. perhaps that is just it. and yes the mood , whether it be day or weather or place just shines through naturally in what i am seeing and feeling. that might explain the "all over the place" ness i am feeling. life is like that ups & downs, lights & darks. thanks. and diane i so get what you are saying, i do the same thing i see a pic in my thumbnails and instantly get "ooooh that is so and so's" shot. wouldn't it be fun if we could see our own shots with that enthusiasm?

I think that style appears no matter what when you put your guts and heart on something and follow instincts and don't lose sigh and keep doing it. Style comes through.
And not only if you try hard to define it.
I love your photos, and I recognize them.

Hello! I've added you to my blog and thought I'd drop in and say hi.

It's funny you say this because I think you have a very beautiful distinct style. If you're anything like me, I get very bored easily and have to change it up.

Even when you mix-up techniques and moods...your style is unique and very visible, as others are letting you know. I think it's hard to be objective and see out when your art form is showing others what you see. That's why the flikr/blogging community is so valuable...let us help you to feel confident. Your style is distinct, unique, highly recognizable and oh so admired!!! Yes, I can spot your thumbnails a mile away!!!

Oh! Do I ever struggle with this. Maybe you just have many styles and that's okay. If it makes you feel any better, I totally agree with meredithwinn... your photos are unique and I love every single one of them. Your style is beauty :)
