C is for cookie...

...that's good enough for me!
baking my cookies this week for "santa"  (wink wink)
my mom does the wild and crazy complicated recipes and i love her for it, but i am a traditional (aka boring) girl when it comes to my cookie loves...  i stick with the old standbys, peanut butter kisses, baby cookies, and chocolate chip.  i do love the standard choc chip recipe, but last year i found a twist on the original that i love even more.  i am a soft cookie girl.  of course i love all cookies fresh from the oven, but i like ones that even if i can't eat them right away, retain their softness, and this twist really seems to do the trick.

*cream cheese-chocolate chip  cookies*
{for diane :)  }

1 -  3 oz pkg. cream cheese
2 sticks unsalted butter softened
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
12 oz. pkg. semi sweet chocolate chips
2 tsp. orange zest (optional)

beat cream cheese, butter, and sugar on high.  beat in eggs and vanilla until smooth.  reduce speed to low, beat in flour and salt.  stir in chips and orange zest.  drop teaspoonful onto cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly browned.  makes about 54 cookies.

note*  these cookies will appear very white unlike original choc chip cookies which appear light brown from the brown sugar in them... only the edges will appear brown the cookie itself will be very white.
very soft.
very delicious.
and bite size.
we almost devoured the batch casey and i made last night while everyone else in this house was outside digging us out from all this snow.  luckily i have enough to make one more batch for "santa"  lol.
happy baking!!!!!

And here I sit with an extra unopened package of cream cheese.

Now I just have to find some chocolate chips.

Thanks for sharing!

Oh my! I'm a huge fan of soft cookies too. I never thought of using cream cheese. I hope you took some pictures of them before they all disappeared!

i think i need to make these too! love cream cheese. and soft cookies. and orange zest. plus the cookies have a 1/2 cup less sugar than most cookie recipes - they're practically healthy :)

YAY!! Now just as soon as this terrible stomach horribleness passes, I am making these cookies. And I plan to eat all 54 by myself. So there. Maybe that won't help my stomach feel better... I'll have to think that over... Oh! But then they are practically healthy!

: )
