carmen and scott

carmen and i became friends via flickr.  carmen is a professional photographer / interior designer / momma of 3 boys.  talk about multitasking!  phew.  carmen and her family live in canada and were headed to maine for a little family vacation.  after having some difficulty landing a place to stay, they came to stay with us. carmen and i talked about doing a family shoot for each other as a gift.  we mommas with cameras tend to always be behind the camera not in front of it, so we wind up having so few photos with us actually in them.  i also thought it might be nice to have a few photos of just jason and i.  we have none of just the 2 of us since our wedding 12 years ago. carmen took her turn first and took us out sans kiddos for a couple shoot.   i must admit it is HARD to be on that side of the camera, really hard for me.  i think hubby felt a but strange too, but carmen made us feel at ease while capturing some beautiful moments of just us. i especially love this one of us lying on our blanket together. thanks carmen!

next it was my turn to shoot carmen and her hubby scott.   i have never done a couple's shoot before except for second shooting a wedding over a year ago. i think knowing carmen and her experience made me nervous,  i wanted to do a good job for them. i need not have worried,  they were fun, silly, & game for anything. they even toughed it out in the woods with all those maine mosquitoes.  i think i captured some wonderful moments of their fun loving connection.  there was a lot of smooching going on.   that explains the three boys...  ;)

here is a slideshow of my faves from their shoot.

thank you carmen and scott.
it was a pleasure having you here, playing and shooting together.
and if you are wondering, we never got around to any family photo shoots.   many hours of sand, sun, swimming, and baby theo waking with the sun,  made for some tired kids and mamas...   i am happy that we did manage to make time (no matter how sleepy we were) for these couples shoots.  i think they are something to treasure for ourselves and our children.
