needles and pins

{the story of a quilt for my daydreaming, sea loving, boy}
needles and pins
needles and pins
sew me a sail to catch me the wind.
sew me a sail as strong as the gale,
carpenter bring out your hammers and nails.
hammers and nails
hammers and nails
build me a boat to go chasing the whales.
chasing the whales
sailing the blue
find me a captain and sign me a crew
captain and crew
captain and crew
take me, oh take me to anywhere new...  -shel silverstein

knowing that right now as i type he is lying in his bed tucked in underneath this quilt makes me so very happy. each little detail was handpicked with him in mind, right down to the color of the thread. it is not a perfect quilt, but it is perfectly imperfect and sewn with all my love. may he have sweet dreams under it, warm wonderful dreams.

This is just so perfect...I hope you make it into some kind of little printed book. It will be just as much an heirloom as the quilt itself.

This might be the most precious quilt I've ever seen Kristin. A treasure forever. I love the hand embroidered ship and waves!

This is wonderful...and I love your photos of it, as well. The little ship with the heart is the perfect, finishing touch!

HE will love it forever! my mother made me a quilt when I went off to college, and I just recently allowed my son (22 yrs) to take it with him as he moved.....sigh...I miss them both....smiles.

That is incredibly sweet :) I just love how you embroidered the ship and little 'love mom' on it for him to. He will cherish his quilt for many years to come knowing that you made it so lovingly for him :)
