i am high on spring.
completely intoxicated by it.
we found a wild patch of lily of the valley last weekend in the woods by our home. they were not quite blooming at the time, but they are now! yesterday casey and i walked in and gathered a big bunch. i had no idea how wonderfully strong and beautiful they smelled. i have always been a lilac girl in spring but these blooms sure are winning me over. when kellen got home from school yesterday we walked back into the woods and gathered more, one bunch was just not enough. so now we have one on our kitchen windowsill and one on my dresser in our bedroom. every now and then the breeze picks up their scent and i inhale a big breath of them. so good.
happy friday everyone.
tomorrow my first born turns 18!

nice. we have pretty much missed spring. the flowers are still blooming but slowly. we have not hit 20 degrees C yet.
18! My daughter turned 16 this year and I was incredulous.
i want to visit your forest! ours are so different!!! we have no tiny bells covering the floor....lots of huckleberry bushes and old man's beard all around.
tiny bells. wonderful smells. i'd like to experience that!
and HAPPY 18th to your (oldest) girl! imagine how beautiful your relationship with one another will continue to grow and blossom as she get's older....pretty sweet scented, just like those little bells.
in high school my girlfriend and i attempted to extract the oils from these delightful flowers and make our own essential oil... i don't think it worked very well. they do smell so good, but beware of them in your garden.... they take over with deep roots. best to keep them in a shady spot where they can be contained. i'm so envious of you right now it's not even funny. ;0
This is purely amazing and full of delight, I wish i could smell them too :D
i won't be online tomorrow, so happy birthday to taylor!! and happy birthing day to you, momma. i always try to remember to celebrate the mommas, too. xo
i need some woods to wander through ...
Oh I love these! The new header is beautiful!
GORGEOUS photos...
... I also share the lily of the valley love. My mother had them planted in her garden and I fell in love every spring. When I finally got my own first 'owned' home, I was ecstatic to see them growing in this garden too. They bring very warm memories and I love sharing them now with my daughter.
Thank you for sharing.
Totally a lilac girl myself but those lily of the valley's look amazing!!!
happy birthday to Taylor!!!! Have a great weekend!
Full of delight! HAPPY 18th to your (oldest) girl!

Love lily of the valley! We have them growing along the north side of our house and yes, they sure do spread. I just sent some "pips" out to my mom in Montana from here in Ct. Hopefully, she will be able to enjoy them as much as I have. I'm so jealous tho, the ones you found in the forest have wonderful long stems, not like the short ones we have. I heard Kate Middleton's bouquet was made up of lily of the valley, sweet william and other wild flowers; simply beautiful!
We have lily of the valley in the woods around our house and now the girls have stocked a vase on our deck with it is well. So pretty, fragrant and it lasts and lasts... I am a fellow Mainer who enjoys your blog and your photos. Happy spring!
