growing up

his teeth have been slow to loosen and let go. most of his second grade friends have long lost those 2 front teeth and grown new big kid teeth already. i know he has been anxious for the same to happen to him. these rights of passage into big kid-dom. he worked and worked on that tooth relentlessly for the past week. honestly it was grossing me out. i can deal with pain and blood but the tooth thing goes right through me. his gums were getting so irritated and sore i just wanted that tooth to come out, or for him to give it a rest, one or the other please. today he was playing with it again when his daddy took a look at it and gave it a little tug and voila it came out! phew. so tonight it rests under his pillow in his little treasure box from the dentist... time to put on my tooth fairy wings and go get it.... he is growing up. moments like these are big. soon he will have a mouth full of big teeth as the baby in him fades away.

Can't say that I miss the wiggling tooth days . . . it used to skeeve me out like nothing else. But the smiles with the gap-toothiness? I miss those!

I remember losing my teeth and how it was a little scary but exciting. Definitely a rite of passage.

I have a ten year old that just tried deodorant for the first time today because he's been feeling "sticky". I can't believe he's getting so grown up but for now anyway he still holds my hand and gives me spontaneous hugs. They do grow up fast!
