my best friend flies in today.
have not seen her since last june for taylor's high school graduation which seems like a lifetime ago already to me now. i am sick. that figures right? at least i feel like today i am pulling out the other side of the illness. must get more fruit so i can hit my juicer hard again today. that felt so good yesterday. why did i ever let it gather dust? (silly me) the kids even had some of the batch i made at dinner, threw in a few strawberries too in that one. so good. hubby says this is "our year" to get back on a healthy track and really make it work this time. i can say being sick i am ALL for anything to make us feel better. who knows, maybe this is "our year". we both turn 40 soon. (wow!) i met him when we were right in the middle of our twenties, now here we are side by side turning 40 this year. that almost makes me giggle. we have been together now longer than i had been in school and i remember thinking school took "forever"! lol... :)

while i was sick i did finish 2 books. my reading pace has been pretty good these cold days. i like that. I read Joan Didion's memoir, "Blue Nights", the follow up to her "The Year of Magical Thinking". and for a lighter choice I read Kristin Kimball's memoir , "The Dirty Life". I loved reading this one since so much of what she wrote about i have seen first hand with my own eyes. She began her story in State College PA (i went to Penn State many moons ago...) and there was much talk of the Amish and horses (i grew up right outside Amish country and attended many Amish horse auctions as a kid) and then the story ends on a farm on the NY side of Lake Champlain (that i know too... but the VT side). seems i am into non fiction these days. now i need to get to the library and get something new.
