a perfect day for a fort

today we woke to sunshine & much cooler air.
daddy was still out for the count with his bad arm.
i knew i needed to come up with a few new projects to keep the day moving.
the morning was made for indian vests made from trader joe's brown paper bags left over from leslie's visit.
i cut out them into vest shapes and the kids decorated them with markers.
then we headed outside and hung some sheets on the wash line and anchored them with heavy rocks.
a fort was born.
the kids gathered their pillows and blankets and favorite toys.  buzz and woody made it outside to play, along with favorite puppy.  i collected a few books, paper, crayons and pencils to give them some things to do in their fort.  then i made a tray of popcorn, marshmallows in a bowl, 2 cups of water, and a jelly jar with wildflowers to make it 'fancy'.  i hope they remember the little things like the flowers when they grow up.  they really had fun in the fort.  when they got bored they'd run out and do tricks on their swingset,  then go back in for a rest or a book.  i can now see this being a very regular thing happening in the backyard.  it was just the perfect breezy shady spot to hang out.  kellen brought out his telescope too,  maybe on the lookout for other indians...  it felt like an early fall day.  i can see cider and apples being had in forts to come.  or hot cocoa and cinnamon toast.  mmmm.  of course i snapped lots of pictures of them playing.  it was just too pretty to pass up.
